Acne is a common problem among people of all ages, especially teenagers. Most acne or pimples heal without leaving any scar, but sometimes after having acne, there are embarrassing scars on our face. Acne scar removal is the key to get smooth and healthy looking skin by healing or removing the acne scars. There are various treatments for acne scar removal. 1. Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is acne scar removal procedure which is done under local anasthetic. The doctor will scrap or remove the damaged top layers of acne scar skin with an electric sanding instrument or an abrading tool. After treatment new skin will grow and your skin should heal and look smoother.

Dermabrasion is one of the most effective skin treatments available for facial scar removal. But it is not recommended for people with darker skin because it could reveal lighter layers of skin. It could cause another problem with your appearance.

2. Injections

There are 2 type of injections: steroid and collagen injections. Sometimes, these injections are carried out in tandem with various other treatments or forms of surgery. These are very delicate operations and may require you to state if you are allergic to certain chemicals before they are carried out.

a. Collagen injections

Collagen injections are a less permanent solution to acne scars. Collagen is injected under the skin and is often used to improve acne scars.They generally last from 3-6 months and require future injections to maintain their effect.

b. Steroid injections
Steroid injections are a long term treatment for acne scar removal. The side effects of this procedure are minimal, but there is a chance that the scars will still remain visible.

3. Laser treatment

Laser skin resurfacing is an effective skin laser treatment for minor facial flaws. If you try this laser skin treatment you may find the acne scars will be minimized.

4. Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is a controversial treatment and is only recommended for extreme cases. It is used to prevent the reoccurrence of severe scarring. This treatment may cause long term side effect, the risk of cancer induced by radiation.

5. Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is an acne scar treatment similar to dermabrasion but a suction tool is used with a rough tool or crystal blasting tool.

6. Punch excision
Punch excision is an acne scar treatment in which the scar is removed with a punch and the wound is sutured after excision. If you have deep scars you may want to consider this type of acne scar removal treatment. Punch grafts will replace scarred skin.

7. Subcision
Subcision is an acne scar treatment in which the scar is detached from the deeper tissue and after the wound heals a fresh skin is formed.

8. Dermal filling
Dermal filling is a method in which pits are filled with dermal injections to bring the pits in level with the skin.

9. Chemical Peel

In chemical peel  the top layer of the skin is removed using chemicals. Usually they use mild organic acids like glycolic or salicylic or lactic acid. This treatment can be done by a cosmetologists or dermatologists.  This treatment is painless and requires no anesthesia.  The removal of scars takes 2 to 3 months. The skin will regenerate, new cells will grow and should look better.

- When selecting an acne scar removal product, insure that you understand how the product works. Find out how it will work to remove acne scars on your body.

- Make sure that you are not allergic or hypersensitive to certain chemicals in the product. Not all acne scar removal methods are 100% safe.  If you are unsure, test the product on a small area of skin to see the reaction within a day’s time.
