    Laser skin resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing is one of skin laser treatment method. It can be a very effective treatment for reducing mild scarring, or the effects of sun damage, such as fine wrinkles. With laser skin resurfacing technique, upper layers of the skin on your face can be removed using a laser. It will allow younger looking skin to grow in its place and improving  the look of your skin without having full cosmetic surgery. Face,  chest and hands can be treated with laser skin resurfacing.

    How Skin Laser work

Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the skin and preferentially absorbed by the water in the damaged collagen beneath the surface of the skin. This action allows the laser light to remove very fine layers of skin, diminishing the look of wrinkles and other unwanted textures. The older, wrinkled collagen in the skin is remodeled into newer skin. As new cells form in the healing process, the skin is smoother and softer.

Laser resurfacing is a technique used during laser surgery wherein molecular bonds of a material are dissolved by a laser. It is used for the treatment of wrinkles, solar lentigenes, sun damage, scars (see acne scar treatment), stretch marks, actinic keratosis and telangiectasias or “spider veins” – a symptom of ataxia telangiectasia.

It can be combined with liposuction when this is done to remove excess fat from the chin and jaw area. The skin may be wrinkled after fat is removed and laser resurfacing can help tighten and smooth over the new contours.

    Type of Laser Skin Resurfacing

The newest types of laser resurfacing are Radio Frequency (Syneron Matrix RF), Erbium (Er:YAG) Fractional (Sciton Profractional) and CO2 fractional (Fraxel Repair) lasers. These were developed to remove skin more precisely, layer by layer, using very short pulsed light energy or continuous light beams that are delivered in a scanning pattern to remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage to the surrounding structures.

    Result After Laser Skin Resurfacing

    - After the skin laser treatment resurfacing procedure, an antibiotic ointment and dressing is applied to your skin. Your face may be covered with a mask bandage for one or two days and possibly a head wrap for a few days.

    - During recovery, you need to keep your skin moist by using protective creams and ointments. Remain at home and limit your activity level. After one or two weeks, once new skin has completely covered the treated area,  you may use cosmetics to conceal any lingering redness.

    - Your skin may stay red or pink for up to nine months following laser resurfacing and may be sensitive to sunlight for up to a year after the procedure.

    - You may notice an immediate difference in your skin quality and appearance. Gradually during the next six to 12 months, you’ll likely see continued improvement. Although the effects of laser resurfacing can last for years, wrinkles and expression lines eventually recur as skin ages. Repeat procedures may be necessary.

Possible Complication of Laser Skin Resurfacing

    1. Hyper- or hypopigmentation: skin tone that turns darker or lighter than normal. It may start three to four weeks after surgery and can last several months. Darker skin tone may increased risk of hyperpigmentation.

    2. Herpes virus infection :  the virus that causes cold sores. In most cases, herpes is already present and the surgery causes the virus to flare up. If you have a history of cold sores, shingles or herpes, your doctor can prescribe a medication to prevent these infections after laser surgery.

    3. Infection, acne flares and dermatitis -  inflammation of the skin. Scarring also can occur although it’s rare, especially for less-aggressive procedures.

So, How is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is an effective skin laser treatment for minor facial flaws. It can lessen the appearance of fine lines around your eyes, mouth and cheeks. It can also improve your complexion if you have yellowish or grayish skin tones.

But laser skin resurfacing has its limitations. It can’t remove deep wrinkles or eliminate excessive or sagging skin (jowls). In addition, the effects aren’t permanent because as you age, you continue to acquire expression lines — lines that result from the natural movement of your face, such as when you squint or smile about your goals and find out whether this procedure can meet your needs.
