If you have psoriasis or eczema, or you suspect that you do, your first thought may be where to go first. Do you visit your dermatologist or do you just wait and see if it will go away on its own? Dermatologists can be expensive and the doctor’s is not always easy to visit. If you’re unsure of what to do about psoriasis and eczema, look up the many helplines and websites dedicated to helping people with these skin conditions.
These organisations can provide you with information on the disorder, possible treatments and a forum where you can discuss what has worked best to ease the symptoms.
They understand the condition and will not judge you for having it. The worst symptoms can be itching and burning pain, and the skin effects it has can make some people self-conscious which is understood by the people on the website. Everyone on these websites are sympathetic to your suffering and will listen without judgement.
Visiting a doctor can be beneficial in that they will take you through the range of treatments available especially if you have extreme psoriasis and eczema symptoms and need medically supervised treatment. There are types of psoriasis which requires treatment in hospital including the very dangerous Erythrodermic psoriasis.
Milder forms of the disease are the most common and sufferers will have mild symptoms if any. Plaque psoriasis is the most common form with 80% of sufferers having this type.
There is no preventative for an outbreak of psoriasis and no life long cure. The cause of the disease is genetic, passed from generation to generation but in no particular order. The disease can skip several generations before it emerges again and so you may not have any living relatives with the disease. The initial outbreak can be caused by several factors including an infection in the throat like tonsillitis, stress or alcohol.
If you are unfortunate enough to suffer from psoriasis or eczema, there is help out there available to you and you will be able to find a treatment that works for you, so don’t despair!
